regular lunch options. However, please note: If the total value of selected items exceeds

>> How students pay for meals and extras at VIS
All students at VIS use their “Mifare“ card (Grade 1 to 5) or edu.card (starting grade 6)
to pay for lunch and other food items in the school cafeteria. The „Mifare“ card will be
available in October 2025. There are several ways this card can be used, depending on
the payment method chosen:
1. Pre-paid school lunch programme: If your child is enrolled in the pre-paid school
lunch programme, their „Mifare“ card (Grade 1 to 5) or edu.card (starting grade 6) is
digitally coded to reflect this. At checkout, your child simply shows the card and the
system will register the pre-paid lunch — quick and easy, no further payment needed.
2. Pay-as-you-go (Top-Up Balance): If you have not selected a pre-paid plan, your
child’s “Mifare“ card/edu.card can be manually topped up with credits. In this case day’s
lunch is then deducted from this balance.
You can load credits to the card in one of the following ways:
In cash at one of the four cafeteria cash registers
Via bank transfer (details will be provided on request)
Via „eat“-app or „eat“-website (details will be provided with the login information or on
request)
3. Combining Pre-paid Meals with Extras: Even students with pre-paid lunches may
wish to purchase additional items such as a snack or beverage. To do this, simply add
extra credit to your child’s “Mifare“ card/edu.card card using one of the top-up options
above. At checkout, the pre-paid lunch will be automatically recognized and any extras
will be charged to the credited balance.
>> If the Lunch Card Runs Low – Overdraft Policy
We understand that sometimes credits run low unexpectedly. To make sure no student
goes without a meal, we offer an overdraft allowance.
Each student is allowed to overdraw their lunch account by up to € 15.00 or two meals.
Lunch accounts are reviewed every 3–4 weeks and families with a negative balance will
receive an e-mail reminder.
Important: During the final three weeks of the school year, overdrafts are no longer
permitted. All outstanding balances must be cleared before the end of the term.
>> What happens if your child misses a lunch day?
If your child is enrolled in the pre-paid lunch programme and is absent from school, no
refund or credit will be issued for missed days.
However, the pre-paid pricing has been carefully calculated to offer significant savings
- even when occasional absences occur. This means your child can still benefit from a
discounted rate compared to paying the regular daily price.
