This year marked a significant step forward in VIS’s commitment to sustainability, collaboration, and environmental leadership. Through Global
Action Week, VIS launched the Eco Hub to share knowledge and practical, transferable workshops with international schools across Vienna and
Austria, while also gaining national recognition in October 2025 with the
award of the Austrian Umweltzeichen (Ecolabel) at a federal ceremony
celebrating schools’ contributions to a sustainable future.
Our Eco agenda is closely integrated with the VIS IB curriculum, allowing
students to connect their classroom learning with the Eco-Schools themes.
This alignment was reflected in the feedback provided by both the CIS and
IB reviewers during their evaluations in November 2025.
At the heart of these achievements was strong student leadership, with
Green Teams and the Secondary Eco Action Team driving initiatives such
as waste reduction, biodiversity enhancement, eco gardening, circularity
projects, and sustainability education, enabling students to actively shape
a more sustainable school environment and live the values of a proud Eco
School community.
